Hyderabad/ Mangalore: Karnataka government will be "accountable" for any trouble by Sri Ram Sene on Valentine's Day, Union minister Renuka Chowdhary said on Wednesday after the Hindu outfit issued a fresh threat of protests by its self-styled moral brigade.
"We are going to protest Valentine's Day celebrations. This is not the first time we are protesting. We have been against it for the last 10 years," Pramod Muthalik, the chief of Sene which attacked a Mangalore pub recently, said ignoring state government's warning of stern action against those who create any law and order problem.
Muthalik, who was granted conditional bail in the pub attack case, said that the Sri Ram Sene would give a memorandum to the Karnataka governor, chief minister and home minister pressing for a ban on Valentine's Day.
Muthalik's comments drew a sharp reaction from Women and Child Development minister Renuka Chowdhary who demanded that the state government take action in view of the threats.
It "is for the state governmnet now, they have to be accountable and responsible for this if Muthalik talks like this they may land up there on Feb 14," the minister said in Hyderabad.
Hitting out at Sene chief, Chowdhary said, "Muthalik is not a married man he would not know what to do. That is his problem.
"He should learn how to respect other genders and learn how to respect each other and he is not doing that. As he doesn't belong to a democratic process so his opinion does not matter," the Minister added.
While promising stern action against those who take law into their own hands, the BJP government in Karnataka has refused ban Sene.
