"We are sharpening tactics and searching for new operational calibre to contain the activities of Maoists in Jharkhand, West Bengal and other Maoist-hit areas," Director General of CRPF K Vijay Kumar told reporters.
He said special training designs were launched for 218 battalions of CRPF, the largest paramilitary force in the country to keep them fit and added 10 battalions of Cobra forces have gone under a lot of special anti-insurgency training.
Stating that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has been under control, Kumar said, CRPF was jointly operating with the local police there which yielded good results.
Asked if there was any plan to launch an independent intelligence wing of CRPF, especially for militant-infested areas, the DG said he did not rule out the possibility of launching such an outfit.
Kumar, who arrived to inaugurate a group centre of CRPF at Damdamiya near here, said that three battalions of women CRPF which were raised have been working very well.
He will also visit jungle warfare school at Vairangte in Mizoram today.
