" Two police inspectors, four sub-inspectors and a good number of constables based in Garo Hills region are under the security scanner for their linkages with the GNLA," a top official from the ministry of home affairs said.
The GNLA, a tribal Garo militant outfit, is headed by a trained deputy superintendent of police Champion R Sangma.
According to the official, these police personnel are believed to have passed strategic information to the GNLA ahead of any operation against the militants.
Earlier, the additional Director-General of Police (special branch) S K Jain had said the police were committed to ensuring proper discipline in the force.
Admitting that there were inputs to suggest that the GNLA top leaders very often get in touch with some policemen, Mr Jain said the vigilance mechanism would be intensified to see that there was no leak of relevant information to the GNLA.
Strict monitoring would be carried out to prevent policemen from joining the outfit, he said.
