Assam displaying big-brotherly attitude: Mukul Sangma

Shillong, June 4 With boundary dispute with Assam continuing to dominate Assembly proceedings, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today accused the neighbouring state of displaying a "big-brotherly" attitude and violating the status quo agreement reached between the two governments.

"Assam government is showing big-brotherly attitude probably presuming that Meghalaya is soft-peddling on the issue so that they can go on violating agreement and even resorting to actions equivalent to encroachment," Sangma said in his reply to deliberations on a resolution on the issue in the assembly.

"It has become very important now to aggressively pursue the issue for a permanent settlement. It is a fact that Assam has failed to honour agreements reached at the chief-ministerial level and has increased the area of dispute," he said.
