Shillong, Mar 14 : Leader of the Opposition D D Lapang on Thursday met Meghalaya Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary and said that a no-confidence motion would be moved against the Meghalaya Progressive Alliance which had been reduced to a minority with the resignation of yet another minister.
"The opposition will move a no confidence motion against the government in the coming session of the assembly beginning March 16," Lapang, who belongs to the Congress, told reporters after meeting Mooshahary.
"I told the governor that the Donkupar Roy-led MPA government has lost majority in the 60-member house and he should now act as per the constitution," Lapang said, demanding resignation of the chief minister.
He claimed that Health and Family Welfare Minister Advisor Pariong, belonging to HSPDP, who quit MPA on Thursday morning was in his camp.
He also alleged that the Speaker "has apparently threatened members who have quit the MPA, saying on record that they could be disqualified".
He claimed the threat has created fear in the minds of Independent MLAs, Limison Sangma and Ismail R Marak who resigned earlier from the coalition.
He will sought Centre intervention "in event of any misuse of the law", Lapang said.
