In the show-cause notices issued last night, the defecting Independents have been asked as to why action should not be taken against them under the Anti-Defection law.
The two Independents - Ismail R Marak and Limison D Sangma had defected to the Opposition camp on Monday. They were given three days time to reply to the show-cause notices.
Meanwhile, the Congress has decided to move a resolution in the House for removal of the Speaker for going to the media with a pre-determined mind to disqualify the two Independent legislators from assembly following their decision to withdraw support to the MPA government.
" Lanong while conducting the business of the House, more so while deciding any question under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India, has to act like quasi-judicial authority in an impartial manner. On the contrary, by going to the media and speaking out against the members of this House openly, he has grossly undermined the dignity and value of the high office of the Speaker," the Congress resolution, signed by 12 of its MLAs, said.
While stating that Lanong had lost confidence of the House by such action, the resolution said," Lanong should be removed from the Speaker's office and pending decision on the resolution, he should desist and refrain from discharging any duty assigned to or connected with the post and the office of Speaker."
