Mukul Sangma urges youth to join Army

Shillong, Jun 28 :Describing Army as an 'excellent career option', Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today urged the youth to join the Indian Army.

Speaking at a 'despatch ceremony' for 70 candidates selected to join the Indian Army in the soldier rank, Dr Sangma said the selection system in the Army was fair and transparent.

Acknowledging that there was low number of youth in officer cadre from Meghalaya, the Chief Minister asked the youth to join the Army in the Officer cadre also.

Dr Sangma said a 'Task Force' headed by him has also been formed to look into job creation in the state.

''The task force will look into all aspects including coaching for various employment opportunities,'' Dr Sangma said.

The Chief Minister also assured to take all possible measures to increase the number of youth in the Army from the state.

Exhorting the youth to join the Officer entry, General Officer Commanding-101 Area Lt Gen VK Narula said, ''Competition being at national level the youth need to be prepared accordingly.''
