New political party floated in Meghalaya

Shillong, Apr 4 : A new political party ''Rashtriya Secular Congress'' (RSC) has declared its formation in Meghalaya.

The RSC, led by former Congress leader Dr Sikandar Ali Laskar, has set up its headquarters in Guwahati and has its units in all the seven states of the North East.

Dr Laskar said his party would work for gender equality and women empowerment in Meghalaya.

He also pledged that the RSC will reserve 50 per cent of the seats for women in the 60-member Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

The RSC with 113 primary members, hailing from different states, will hold its national convention in New Delhi soon.
