Sangma slams Nepal’s media for baseless reports

Shillong, May 27: Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has termed the media reports in Nepal that 17 Nepalese were killed and about 40000 were displaced after the Langpih firing incident on May 14 as 'fabricated and baseless'.
Speaking to the reporters here yesterday Dr Sangma said, ''Nobody from Nepal has approached the Meghalaya government for clarification in the matter and reports in Nepal’s media are being spread with malicious intention.'' ''Only one Nepali speaking person was killed and that has been already reported by the Local media,'' Dr Sangma clarified.
On the ‘quit notices’ served by the NGOs to the Nepalese in different parts of the state, Mr Sangma said nobody has come forward with the complain to the concerned authorities in that regard.
D B Gurung, a senior leader of the Meghalaya Gorkha Welfare Association(MGWA) also said that media reports in Nepal regarding the death of 17 Nepalese are ‘baseless’.
After the Langpih firing incident in which four Khasi villagers were killed by the Assam police only one seventy-year old man was burnt alive recently.
Mr Gurung further said that after the Langpih firing incident there is fear psychosis among the Nepali settlers in Meghalaya but we are safe and the government has ensured security to Nepali settlers.
