Maitshaphrang urges Govt to introduce Marriage BillMaitshaphrang, an NGO, urged Chief Minister D D Lapang to introduce the Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Bill and the Equitable Distribution of Self Acquired and Ancestral property Bill in the coming budget session of the Assembly. In a letter written to the Chief Minister, Maitshaphrang convenor Michel N Syiem said the NGO had, since 1985, launched an awareness campaign among the people on the importance of having the two bills to speed up all round development of the state and ensure protection of indigenous people. The convenor said because of the peculiar inheritance system practised by the indigenous people these laws could not be taken up in isolation but had to be taken up simultaneously.
