Shillong, March 3 : The Meghalaya government has constituted a committee to look into the demands of employees for implementation of the recommendations of the Fourth Pay Commission.
The principal secretary (finance), B.K. Dev Verma, told this correspondent today that the government had recently constituted the committee, to be headed by him, to study the recommendations of the commission for pay hike.
He said the first meeting of the committee was held recently and there would be several rounds of meetings before the amount to be paid to the state government employees as salaries was finalised.
“It will take another three months for the recommendations of the Fourth Pay Commission to be finalised,” he said, adding that the suggestions would not be made effective from this fiscal.
He said the financial implication of the commission’s recommendations was that at least Rs 300 crore extra would be needed per year to meet the salaries of government employees. “The amount will be more if we calculate the arrears,” he added.
After receiving the recommendations of the pay commission, the cabinet had decided to provide an interim relief of 10 per cent of basic pay, including dearness allowance, subject to a minimum of Rs 400 per month with effect from December last year to all government employees. The state’s financial involvement for the interim relief will be Rs 7.7 crore per month.
Verma said the interim relief had been decided by the cabinet, pending the implementation of the full recommendations of the pay commission.
The committee, after finalising the amount to be paid to the employees as salary, will submit its report to the cabinet for a final decision.
