During the proceedings, the judge discussed the FIR which was lodged by the state police against the principals under section 124-A, 341, 506, 120-B and UA (P) Act 2004 of Section 18/32 (2) of the IPC but due to not finding any evidence against the principals they were released without any conditions. The state police further put up a move for judicial remand but again due to lack of evidence it was cancelled.
Mention may be made that five women principals were arrested by the state police on January 27, 2009 and other two male principals were arrested yesterday for not participating in the Republic Day celebration and for neglecting the government order regarding this.
Earlier, the All Manipur Students` Union, AMSU, urged the state authorities to release the arrested principals without further inconvenience to them, while stating that the reason behind their arrest was not fair.
It said the Manipur government and the directorate of education(s) did not clearly mention the reasons for the withdrawal of the schools from the Republic Day celebrations even though they took part in the full dress rehearsal.
It asked why proper steps were not taken before the celebration to ensure the participation and said the AMSU would not support any moves which denied the teachers their rights.
