Bangladesh trade bodies support transit demand

Agartala, Feb 5 : Trade bodies in Bangladesh have supported the demand of providing transit facilities to India and develop border infrastructure to increase trade with Northeastern states.

India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) officials who came here last week said, they have formally urged Dhaka to provide transit facilities which India was demanding for long time for better business connectivity between both the countries.

”If Bangladesh Government provides transit facilities to India and allows Chittagong and other ports to ferry essential and heavy cargo between Northeastern states and rest of India via Bangladesh, we would be benefited in terms of revenue and other ways,” IBCCI officials said.

Tripura Government has set up a seven-member task force to suggest ways and means to enhance economic activities, including trade and investment between the Northeast and Bangladesh last week.
