Meghalaya police nabs couple for cheating

A police team from Meghalaya with the help of local police has arrested a couple on charge of cheating from a locality in the state capital, a police officer said today.

On the basis of a complaint filed by the private institute at Mawlai police station in Shillong two years ago, a police team from the hill state arrived here and nabbed Sanjeev Srivastava and his wife (name withheld) from an apartment in Shivpuri locality yesterday and left for Meghalaya after obtaining transit remand of the accused couple from a court, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jitendra Rana said.

The cops seized Rs. 17 lakh in cash, besides a laptop, large quantity of monogram of IT firm - Techno Global University, besides other forged documents from residence of the couple, he said.

The couple have been charged with selling fake degree certificates of the said institute to students, Rana said, adding the University is registered in Shillong.
