Anti-infiltration measures in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Jun 16 : The Meghalaya Government has set up anti-infiltration watch-posts, patrol-posts and check-posts to tackle problem of influx and illegal immigrations in the State, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said.

While replying during the question hour in the Assembly on Friday, Sangma said watch-posts have been set up in areas including Rajabala, Ampati in the Garo Hills with one sub-inspector and two constables, he said. Patrol-posts equipped with one sub-inspector and six constables were set up in Balat, Shella, Komaghat, Borsora, Muktapur, Dawki and Umkiang and passport check points in Dalu, Baghmara, Bholaganj and Dawki, he added.

The government has sanctioned the creation of new police stations in the districts and a task force has been set up there to check and detect illegal infiltrators from abroad, he said.

An anti-infiltration directorate has been created as a second line of defence, for effectively dealing with illegal immigration in the State.
