Congress list has wrong candidate for Meghalaya's Tura

In a goof-up, the first list of Congress candidates for the Lok Sabha polls has the name of Meghalaya Sports Minister Zenith Sangma instead of Daryl William Cheran Momin, grandson of the state's first chief minister Capt. W.A Sangma, for the state's Tura seat, a party leader said.

"There has been a goof-up in the list of candidates for the Tura parliamentary seat as the party ticket has been allotted to Daryl William Cheran Momin and not Zenith Sangma," Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told IANS by phone from New Delhi.

He said the error will be corrected.

Zenith Sangma, who is also the younger brother of the chief minister,a was one of the nine aspirants who have sought party ticket for Tura parliamentary seat in the western Meghalaya.

Once considered the stronghold of former Lok Sabha speaker Purno Agitok Sangma, Tura is currently represented by his daughter and former union minister Agatha K Sangma of the Nationalist Congress Party.

Meanwhile, the Congress is yet to announce its nominee for the Shillong parliamentary seat, currently held by former union minister Vincent H. Pala.

General secretary Luizinho Faleiro said the party will be announcing the candidate in the second list to be released soon.

Apart from Pala, sitting legislator Ronnie V. Lyngdoh, former assembly speaker Charles Pyngrope and party leader John F. Kharshiing are also seeking the party ticket.
