Delivering her address at the two-day ‘Regional seminar-cum-workshop’ organised by the South Asia Media Solidarity Network (SAMSN) here Lyngdoh said, the labour journalists put in, sometimes go unnoticed.
“The criticism that the Government receives from the media, although not pleasant, is required so that we can work on those issues and rectify,” she added.
Lyngdoh assured the journalists that the State Government would look into their welfare issues and said both the wage and insurance factors would be given due consideration.
In the workshop, journalists from several North-eastern States and also from outside the region participated. These journalists will take up for discussion, today and tomorrow, several issues confronting them.
These issues include economic exploitation and the challenges of working in a conflict zone besides media ethics and the importance of people’s right to information for strengthening democracy.
The seminar is being organised in collaboration with the Indian Journalists Union (IJU) and facilitated by the Shillong Press Club with active support of the Meghalaya Government.
