Meghalaya for border commission to solve land dispute with Assam

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government today said it would continue to press the Centre for forming a Border Commission and creating a political climate to arrive at a solution to the 40-year-old inter-state boundary dispute with Assam.

"We will continue to press Centre for the constitution of a border commission. We will also need to think of alternate strategies to arrive at a solution since there is opposition from Assam to it," Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told the state assembly.

The previous government had passed a resolution urging the Centre to constitute a Boundary Commission which was promptly countered by Assam government last year.

Sangma said, "We all need to work towards building up a favourable political climate in both states."
