"There is fracture mandate everywhere and no single party can be able to form the next government on its own," former MP and party in-charge of Meghalaya, Khiren Rijeju said today, while releasing the party's manifesto for the February 23 state Assembly elections.
He however said, "The BJP will play its important role whether it is in the coalition or by sitting in the Opposition bench".
Appealing to Meghalaya's electorate to vote for the party, Rijeju pledged on behalf of the party to give efficient and sound governance to the people even as he added 'acts of corruptions' will not be tolerated at any levels.
The BJP leader from Arunachal Pradesh lambasted the Congress for misrule in the past three years and alleged bad governance and corruption.
"The Congress has to give a lot of explanation to the people of what the party has been doing and its obligation towards the people being in the ruling in the last government rather than making promises and tall claims," he said.
The BJP said it would implement urgent and time-bound direct action plan for employment generation apart from providing benefits to the underprivileged through individual benefit schemes similar to those of Gujarat's Garib Kalyan Mela.
Regretting that Meghalaya is still tagged as a power-deficit state with a shortfall of 230 MW despite having rich resources for power, Rijeju said, "It is quite unfortunate that the state has so much coal and hydro potentialities," even as he demanded the Congress to answer to this failure.
"Unless the state becomes self sufficient in power, it will not be an attractive destination for investment, industry and agriculture will not take off and tourism can never flourish," he said adding that the BJP will put in place a power policy to plug the gap.
