'Meghalaya Day' celebrated at international trade fair

New Delhi, Nov 26 : Harvest dances, rock songs and hymns in Khasi, Garo, Pnar and English ? all these were performed as part of 'Meghalaya Day' at the 32nd India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan in the capital Saturday.

"This is a perfect platform for showcasing our state because it is through events such as these that citizens from across the country can get a glimpse of what we have been doing, what we can do and what we will be doing," Meghalaya's Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said on the occasion.

Folk dancers from Meghalaya presented two Khasi and one Garo dance mainly concerned with the harvest.

Meghalaya has also produced some of the finest rock musicians as well as singers specialising in gospel and hymn singing owing to the long association with British and American missionary in the state as well as its large Christian population.

Singers from the state such as Grace Maureen Sohilya and Gracyl Ropmay sang solos and duets on the occasion.

There was also a fashion show showcasing the creations of Meghalaya?based designer Duncan Khamon.

The 32nd IITF started Nov 14 and will go on till Nov 27. Each day, a state of India is showcased at the fair.
