Shillong, Sep 8 : A proposal to upgrade the Shillong airport to enable larger aircraft to
land has been taken up by the Airports Authority of India, Meghalaya
Transport Minister A. T. Mondal said.
Mondal told the Assembly that 192.25 acres have been acquired for the
airport and handed over to the AAI and 32 acres belonging to the army
were under negotiation. The project is to be completed by December 31,
2014, he said.
The transport minister said an Instrumental Landing System (ILS) has
been installed and the obstacle survey for the ILS has been sent to the
Directorate General of Civil Aviation for clearance.
On the demand for revised compensation to land owners, Mondal said an additional Rs 11.44 crore has been sought.
