Meghalaya's population at 29,64,007

Shillong, Apr 1 : Meghalaya has recorded the highest decadal growth of 27.82 per cent among all the seven north-eastern states, as per the provisional report of Census 2011.

The total population of Meghalaya has been pegged at 29,64,007 comprising 14,92,668 males and 14,71,339 females.

In the sex ratio, the number of females per 1,000 males has increased from 972 to 986, according to the provisional report.

On the population aged 7 years and above by sex: 2011, Meghalaya has 2,408,185 comprising of 1,210,479 (males) and 1,197,706 (females), while the child population in the age group 0-6 by sex is listed at 555,822 including 282,189 (males) and 273,633 (females).

Because of the increased population, Meghalaya has also highest population density of 132 persons per sq. km In the literacy rate, Meghalaya has registered a literacy rate at 75.48 per cent against 63.31 per cent in 2001 census.
