"Inquiry by Agriculture officers and Block Development Officers (BDOs) is being conducted on the damage and they would submit report to their respective Deputy Commissioner at the earliest," East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Jopthiaw Lyngdoh said.
Mr Lyngdoh said agriculture officers along with BDOs of various C and RD Blocks, affected by the natural calamity, are conducting inquiry to ascertain damage of agriculture produce and other belongings.
Stating that some of the affected areas caused by hailstorm and hailstone in East Khasi Hills district included, Smit, Mawpynthih, Pomlakrai, Mylliem, Upper Shillong area, the DC said adding that affected areas were also being identified by the officers who are on the field conducting the inquiry.
Mr Lyngdoh said assistance would be provided to the affected farmers as per the laid down guidelines of the government.
Heavy rains accompanied by storm and hailstones have wrecked havoc in the city and various parts of the state in the last few days destroying mostly standing crops especially growing vegetables like potato, tomato and others.
Some parts of Jaintia Hills district were also affected by heavy hailstones like crops including livestock. Some parts of Garo Hills were also partially affected.
