Indian police hunt militants for killing 5 laborers

Indian security forces Wednesday launched a massive manhunt to track down suspected Garo militants in the northeastern state of Meghalaya who gunned down at least five laborers in the wee hours, a senior official said.

"A group of Garo National Liberation Army militants from the state's South Garo Hills fired indiscriminately at 2 a.m. on the five labourers from variosu states. The reason for the firing could be to instil fear among the locals," he said asking anonymity.

The militant outfit has been floated by a deserter police official, he said, adding that security forces are combing the area to track him down.
