State tops NE list of rural job act complaints

SHILLONG: The Centre has received as many as 46 complaints regarding implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Act (MGNREGA) from the northeast with Assam topping the list.

As part of the MGNREGA, implemented by the Union ministry of rural development, Rs 16307.07 lakh was released to Meghalaya, Rs 53270.52 lakh to Assam, Rs 23632.11 lakh to Manipur, Rs 18753.91 lakh to Mizoram, Rs 39247.37 lakh to Nagaland, Rs 30307.05 lakh to Tripura, Rs 2940.31 lakh to Arunachal Pradesh and Rs 3771.73 lakh to Sikkim during 2010-11.

"Complaints regarding irregularities in the implementation of MGNREGA have been received by the ministry till March 31, 2010. In the region, 30 such complaints were received from Assam, seven from Manipur, one from Mizoram, five from Nagaland, one from Sikkim and two from Tripura. All complaints have been forwarded to the states concerned for taking appropriate action in accordance with the law," an official statement said.
