Rajiv Gandhi remembered in Shillong

Shillong : Meghalaya today paid homage to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 66th birth anniversary.

On this occasion a seminar on '125th Anniversary of Indian National Congress and Social Resurgence in India' was organised at the Congress Bhawan here.

Speaking on the occasion, Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma recalled the contribution of national and state heroes in achieving the freedom.

"Time has come to decide how we channelise our strength towards building of a new and resurgent India for which Rajiv Gandhi had laid the road map. His aspiration still bank on us to rededicate ourselves to the rebuilding of our nation," Sangma said.

The programme was attended by Pradesh Congress president Friday Lyngdoh, Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope other MLAs and senior Congress functionaries.
