"The cabinet has decided to extend the time for preparing the modalities following the request from Chief Secretary W M S Pariat," Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said today.
The Cabinet, he said, fully understood the complications of the vexed border dispute which had been lying pending for so many years.
"It is not an easy task for the Chief Secretary to prepare the modalities within a given timeframe," the Chief Minister said.
Dr Sangma informed that modalities for border talks would be framed within 45 days to solve the border dispute.
Earlier, Meghalaya Chief Secretary W M S Pariat and his Assam counterpart P C Sharma had sought more time from the government to prepare the modalities for border talks.
State Chief Secretary W M S Pariat yesterday apprised the Cabinet of the important issues which needed to be addressed and strategies to be adopted, Dr Sangma informed.
"The Chief Secretary, still waiting for some more suggestions, is also trying to get hold of some important documents. He is also waiting for the report from the government constituted Sub-Committee on the Inter-State boundary," the Chief Minister said.
