''Bike-a-Thon'' for a healthy and beautiful Meghalaya

Shillong, Aug 1 (PTI) A 300-km cycle ride has begun here to propagate the message of a healthy and beautiful Meghalaya.Shann Fanwar, president of Fanwar Faith Incorporate, (FFI), USA along with his team of five members began the ride from Tura to Shillong this morning.The five-day cycle ride will pass through Rongjeng.Nongstoin, Mylliem, Thadlaskein and conclude at Shillong.

Shann said, "The objective of this ride is to spread the primary message about living a healthy lifestyle and secondly to tell the world that there is a beautiful, colourful and wonderful piece of the land the abode of clouds Meghalaya".

Fanwar, a native of Sohra in Meghalaya moved to West Indies as a young child with his parent and pursued his schooling there and college in the US and than settled there.He is an enthusiast cyclist, particularly after his recovery from an accident which seriously affected his spinal column.In recent years that he had visited the Khasi and Jaintia Hills, he had initiated and carried out the cycle rides - which were termed Bike-a-Thons- with friends and family members, on three occasions.
