3 districts get electricity after 60-hour darkness

Shillong, Aug 27 (PTI) Power supply to the three districts in Garo hills of Meghalaya was today restored after a 60-hour power cut. Normal life was affected severely as the main transmission line passing through West Khasi Hills was snapped by a falling tree.

The "dispuncture" in the high tension wire occurred near Nongstoin, Power Minister AT Mondal said. Defects were also traced in two other places in East Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills, the latter being due to lightning.

The power supply was restored this afternoon after the line was repaired. Work in government offices was affected due to the prolonged power failure, administration officials in the East, West and South Garo Hills said.
