A statement issued from the BSF’s Assam-Meghalaya Frontier headquarters said the village defence party (VDP) of Khaliang in Meghalaya spotted three Bangladeshis chopping trees inside India on early June 8 morning.
When the village defence men challenged them, the intruders attacked them with sharp weapons, prompting the VDP men to fire in self defence from licensed weapons.
One of the Bangladeshi nationals, Abdullah, was killed on the spot and the body, found by BSF 300 metre inside India, was later handed over to the Bangladeshi authorities, the statement said.
Pointing to 29 flag meetings held between the border guards of the two neighbouring countries this year, the BSF statement said, "the BDR has been apprised time and again about the intrusion of Bangladeshi nationals..." but it went on.
"It has been a practice of Bangladeshi nationals to intrude into India for stealing forest products and other items. This year alone, 91 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended by BSF after they intruded inside this country,” a the statement added.
"Similarly in the adverse possession land, BDR has been objecting to Indian farming...", the statement said.
