Meghalaya to ask Centre for CBI enquiry

Shillong, May 17 (PTI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today said the state government would ask the Centre to institute a CBI inquiry into the clash and police firing at Langpih, the disputed area at the Assam-Meghalaya border.

"There was a consensus on the issue of a time-bound CBI enquiry into the incident," he said at a press conference after meeting with political parties and NGOs.

Four persons were killed and several others injured when police opened fire after a group of people attacked another community with firearms, stones, bricks and sticks at the village bordering Meghalaya's West Khasi Hills district and Assam's Kamrup district on May 14.

Sangma said he would hold a discussion with his Assam counterpart Tarun Gogoi after his return from abroad to solve the long-pending border issue between the states.
