Replying to a question by MLA Satto R Marak, deputy chief minister who is in charge of health and family welfare, Rowell Lyngdoh told the assembly that "25 groups including several contractors have been engaged for the construction of a 100-bed hospital at Baghmara".
When asked by Independent legislator Manas Chaudhuri as to what was the rationale behind engaging so many contractors and how would they carry out "one work", Lyngdoh said, "Several works like walls, approach road have been given to each contractor."
One of the contractor was awarded a work of as low as Rs 3 lakh, while the hospital construction costs Rs 1.3 crore.
Giving reasons for delay in construction of the hospital, deputy CM said, "The delay was due to opposition to the construction during the start of the work."
