Meghalaya to join Earth Hour campaign today

Shillong, March 28 : People throughout Meghalaya are likely to join tomorrow’s Earth Hour campaign, along with seventy four other countries, aimed at spreading awareness on reducing carbon footprints. All the participating countries, throughout the globe, will voluntarily keep their lights switched off for an hour to reduce the energy consumption.

The step was a symbolic gesture on the part of WWF to fight the issue of climate change and spread awareness among citizens.

London, Paris, Los Angeles, Athens, Dubai, Rome, Moscow, Rio De Janerio, Hong Kong, Delhi and Mumbai are some of the important cities participating in the campaign to save the earth by reducing carbon footprints.

The Earth Hour was conceptualised in Australia in 2007 with Sydney citizens keeping their lights off for an hour. Last year, thirty five countries joined this project with India formally joining the programme along with other countries. The organisers called upon all the other states in the country to join this movement.
