Meghalaya may move court against Assam

Shillong, March 6 : Meghalaya may move Supreme court against Assam on the boundary dispute between the two states and formed a committee on Thursday to look into the pros and cons of the problem.

We have formed a committee headed by the states advocate general. It will go into the details of the boundary dispute and submit its report within 90 days, government spokesman Conrad Sangma said after a cabinet meeting.

If the committee, which will comprise members from law, revenue and political departments, recommended it Meghalaya may move the apex court against Assam, he said.

Boundary disputes between Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Nagaland are already in the Supreme Court.

Stating that developmental activities should continue in the 12 disputed areas, Sangma said Meghalaya had lodged several complaints with the government of Assam about encroachment and trespassing but the problems continue.

It is a sensitive issue and more of political in nature, Sangma said adding developemnt work in the disputed areas should continue.
