Meghalaya Governor issues directives to Speaker

Shillong , Mar 14 : In a rare instance of the constitutional head of a state giving directives to a speaker, Meghalaya Governor R S Mooshahary, has issued instruction to Speaker B M Lanong on conducting the proceedings when the house assembles on Monday.

The confidence vote of the Meghalaya Progressive Alliance government led by Dr Donkupar Roy, which has lost majority, would be taken up the next day.

The governor forwarded the directives to Lanong last evening.

Contacted, Lanong confirmed receiving the directives, but refused to divulge the details.

Lanong has also replied to the governor, though the contents of the reply were also kept confidential.

The development comes in the backdrop of the Congress moving a resolution in the House for removal of the Speaker for going to the media with a&apospre-determined mind&aposto disqualify two Independents for withdrawing support to the MPA government.

The Congress has alleged that by going to the media and speaking out against the members of the House openly, Lanong has undermined the dignity of the high office.
